Keep Austin …in the same place.

So, we went to Austin on Monday because we had some business on Tuesday. We went a bit early so Rita could show me her Austin. Not the Austin of cockroaches, but of Austin-y thrift stores and eateries and the park and all kinds of wonderful things that I did NOT experience on my last trip to the grand capital.
I will say that it was soooooo much better this time. I ate some very good food and had fun wandering through the little shops. The ambiance and everything was very nice – but now I know why malls were invented. I’m not saying I prefer it either way. When you get a mall you sacrifice originality for corporate and convenience, but ….you don’t have to get back in your car after each store. I’ll take a bit of each. Some, in fact many of the little shops had some handmade/original clothing that was so adorable. And, you may not believe this – I didn’t buy any of it. There were things I would’ve loved, but we have several more trips to make to Austin, and I might actually have money to spend by then. I used all my money on food this trip. There was an adorable set of quilts at the first store we went to that I LOVED. And I mean REAL quilts – not patchwork. $30 a piece!!!! I know!!! But I had to eat and then be able to survive the rest of the week – you know, gas, food…
So, we ate at a nice little place called East Side Cafe, and then we had breakfast at Mi Madre’s which was also very good. I had Megas. For lunch a yummy salad at the Spiderhouse, and then we ate at Kim Phung for dinner before we headed back.
Good food. Apparently according to Rita the traffic is ‘never this bad’, but I’ll give the city more time before I make a final traffic judgement decision. But I-35 REALLy does crawl – All the time.
Finally, I’d like to report that there were NO little critters living in our hotel room. It was nice, clean and comfortable. We even got up early and exercised before breakfast!!! We were just like, ‘yeah, our first business trip together!’ yipee! hehe.
Oh, and one more thing. Monday night we went to a fun place called Trudy’s for a drink. If you are ever there, I have to recommend what Rita recommended to me: the Mexican Martini. Excellent. Later!
