5k Training: Week 4

Running in the rain. It poured yesterday and had been raining hard for about an hour when time came for 5k practice yesterday.  I had been at the gym early that morning doing the weights routine that I had to skip the night before and I asked our instructor what the ‘weather plan’ was for training. She said rain or shine…and even storm.  So, I was prepared and actually looking forward to running in the rain. It wasn’t cold or anything so the rain was nice.  It was REALLY raining though, there was lots of flooding and we couldn’t even get back to our normal trail because the little bridge was flooded.  There were only about 7 or 8 people who actually came and several of them went and ran their programs inside on the treadmils.  There were at least 3 of us who are doing the Mud Run too, so we all stayed and ran outside and a few others too.  The puddles were huge, but it wasn’t bad at all. It beats 98 degrees, that’s for sure.  As far as the workout, I had to keep slowing down because the heart rate was getting near my max, but at the end of the hour, I was able to run a little faster and keep it down, so that made me hopeful. Maybe on some days if I just do a reeeeeeeeally long warm up, I can run at a faster pace but stay within my recommended limits.   Hopefully I can give it a try next week or this weekend when I get back from Austin. Gotta go work.

  • JaNae - Sounds like you have a fun training program going on! A friend of mine here did something like that when we were training for the Cinci 1/2 marathon. She absolutely loved it…although I don’t know that she would’ve been so dedicated to run in the rain! You’re doing awesome!
