In less than 48 hours I will have begun my first triathlon (sprint triathlon to be exact). Oh boy. I’m starting to get nervous/excited. Mostly excited. The only other race that has got me this excited before might possibly be the Mud Run last fall. It’s going to be fun and difficult and just completely crazy. I love it! Yes, I’m weird. But I meet so many people who complain about not having anything in their lives that gets them excited or makes them happy or CARE, and although this isn’t anything that helps other people, it gets me motivated. So call me weird because I could get excited about doing not only something that a lot of people don’t enjoy – but 3 things that people don’t enjoy – all in one race!! It just sounds like so much fun to me! There are so many variables to the race! Your swim time, your first transition, your bike race/time, your second transition and then your run. I know it’s going to kick my butt, but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve trained for it. Not as much as I’d like for the bike portion, but I’ve got another NOT SMALL running race in only 3 more weeks that requires me to put running at the top of the to-do-during-my-workout list. I feel pretty good about the bike. I know I won’t be as fast as I’d like, but I’ve ridden the course quite a lot and at least feel prepared.
Now it’s just the getting ready part. Packing up ALL of the stuff I’ll need for my transitions, eating well and smart for the next two days and just trying to relax. This tapering stuff certainly has me antsy this week. Tomorrow we pick up our race packets and I find out what my start order is. Your place in line is based on your reported swim time. Mine is already 30 seconds slower than it should be. When I started swimming in the Benbrook Y pool (with its 25m length versus LMRA’s 50m) I discovered I was 30 seconds faster. So this should be interesting.
