Little Miss Autumn

Miss Autumn was a pure delight. What a sweetheart! I’ve know her mama for… well, most of the time I’ve lived in Texas. Wow. We played and walked and played and just had a wonderful time exploring her big backyard with lots of help from her awesome big sister. Isn’t she just precious? Thanks for having fun and being silly with me!!

Gotta clean up after all those Cheetos! =)

Newborn Sweetness | Miss Lola and Her Family

Meet Miss Lola. She is super special (of course she is), also because she’s my very first BabyDays baby! So you’ll be getting to see a lot more of her and her awesome family over the course of her first year. She was such a sweety for her first photo session. Happy and silly and very expressive!

Welcome to the world Miss Lola!

These are the BabyDays of our lives

When we were waiting on our little Dude to arrive last year, the picture planning began in my head. How would I manage, organize, share and PRINT all of the photos I would inevitably take of this child during his first year and beyond. I came up with what I thought was a pretty good plan, and I have to say..I’d give myself about a 6 out of 10 in terms of sticking to it, which is pretty darn good honestly. I’m ONLY 2.5 3.5 months behind in uploading photos to our online family sharing gallery, and maybe 4 months behind on video. I have still managed to remember to take photos of our son with a real camera at least once a month on his monthly birthday – sometimes more but it’s dwindled a bit as more of my time is spent following him around since he’s no longer stationary. There are PRINTS of him up in the house from as recently as Christmas (4 months ago). But at this point I’d say 85% of my photos and video are captured on my iphone. Which is another reason I keep changing my ‘grand album plan’. Anyhow..the point being – we all make plans and then reality happens and time doesn’t stop to let you catch your breath and figure it out. He just keeps on growing and changing. I swear since he hit 9 months, every single day is full of something new and changing and hilarious and what if I forget.

I would wager a guess that most new moms have some sort of similar scenario. We have a plan. Sometimes we execute our plan brilliantly and then we completely drop it in order to keep on top of the laundry for a month or so. We can do some things well some of the time, but not all things all of the time. We must remind ourselves of this.

Admittedly I am a bit more obsessed with photos in general than most, but I wanted to offer something that would be helpful to moms that wanted and needed to spend more time being about the business of their family and less time worrying about photos. It’s not a brand new idea, but I think it’s a good one, so starting now I am offering a 1st year baby photography plan called BabyDays. Because we’re all living it one day at a time. Hehe.

You can see the pretty page I made about it here.

Basically it includes 3 sessions throughout the year and a final framed piece that showcases all three sessions. You can choose a classic frame or an Organic Bloom frame. =)

You’ll select 3 session times from 5 possible milestone moments: birth, newborn, 3 months, 6 months and 1 year. Of course these are suggestions and if you decide you need to do photos when your little one gets their first tooth – that is just fine. It’s just nice to have a plan sometimes.

My Favorite App for New Moms

Ok, I’m not some fancy reviewer person. I’m just a mom who loves technology and researches things to death. I also appreciate it greatly when someone else has used something, researched and can recommend something useful to me that I can just start using and enjoy their hard work. Thank you to those people!

Well today I am trying to give back by telling you about my favorite app (iphone/ipad) for new moms and dads. Holy moly this thing saved my brain. It’s the Total Baby app from ANDESigned. (I swear I’m not getting anything for reviewing this). I just love it. There are some other good and comprehensive apps out there, but as far as usefulness with my iphone, this thing was what I needed.

The most helpful feature was tracking feedings. Whether you are nursing or bottle feeding, it tracks everything. So when you wake up at 3am and have NO IDEA what side you started on last time…the app will tell you. If you’re nursing, it tracks total feeding time for the day so you can know if your baby is eating more or less over time, and it’s so helpful for all the doctors visits when they ask you all those eating, pooping, sleeping questions. You can just look it up. You can even set it up to send you reports by email if you want. It’s got more features that you would need – but i’m sure someone’s going to need all of them. You can just use what you need when you need to and then get a little laugh when you realize it says you haven’t changed a diaper in 61 days because you don’t have to track that anymore.;)

Oooh and I almost forgot, it tells you how long it’s been since your baby’s last feeding started! So you know how much time you have left. This completely cuts down on the number of times your and your husband ask that age old question, “When did he/she eat last?”  Instead – you just go check the phone. You don’t have to fill your brain with countdown clocks and sides, and amounts, and all that lovely stuff. It’s sooo soo helpful.

It has a section to keep your baby’s stats from doctor appointments and you can put in notes to remind yourself what you wanted to ask the doctor at the next appointment. It truly was our little baby administrative assistant. The only thing that will get old is when you sit down to feed your baby and you’re all ready to go…and you realize you don’t have your phone. =) But that’s what husbands and helpers are for. =)

HERE’S THE LINK TO THE APP.

So that’s my two cents. I hope it saves someone some trouble and helps some moms keep a little more of their sanity because you have one..or ten less things to remember.

Do you have a favorite baby/parenting related app? Tell me in the comments!
